Welcome to the website for the research project ‘Making Citizens – UK citizenship ceremonies’, led by Dr Bridget Byrne of the University of Manchester and funded by The Leverhulme Trust and the British Academy. More information on the background, aims and research questions asked can be found in ‘About the Project‘.

Key findings – a report

The research began in 2009 and many of you will have responded to emails requesting information about the ceremonies, been interviewed or invited Bridget to observe at the citizenship ceremonies. We have produced a  report for registrars and those involved in citizenship ceremonies, summarising the key findings from the research.

Discussion: we want to hear what you think!

We want to hear your ideas and responses to the findings and conclusions made in the report. We also hope that this website might become a place where you can also exchange ideas and experiences with other registrars and people involved in organising and conducting citizenship ceremonies. To facilitate this we’ve divided the report into sections of key themes and invite you to join the conversation on the discussion page.  These comments may also contribute further to our research, so if you don’t want your entries to be used directly in the research, please contact Bridget Byrne (bridget.byrne@manchester.ac.uk)
